Starbucks sacrifice

This is a pre-accident post that was originally posted on my AUDHD Facebook page on 27th February 2023:

This afternoon I used my Starbucks Reward free drink so that my oldest could have a Frappuccino after her counselling session. She was not in a great mood and struggled to get through her session and so I drove her around a few places afterwards so that she could catch some Pokemon and hit a few Pokestops (she’s Pokémon obsessed atm) and then she asked me if I had enough money for a coffee.

I know it’s important to say no sometimes but this didn’t feel like the right time to say no – and it’s so hard to tell your kids there isn’t enough money to do things.

And then I remembered I had a reward saved in the app. So we headed to Starbucks and I got her the largest Strawberries and Cream Frappuccino they had and I asked for a tap water.

I know this is probably the mum (or dad) equivalent to helping someone and then sticking it on the internet for clout but I’m not sharing to get praise (although to be honest, occasionally it’s nice to get validation for doing something good) or to show that I’m perfect because I am far from perfect in many ways.

I guess I just wanted to share because these little things we do don’t get seen….

And I don’t really get thanks as my oldest doesn’t really verbalise gratitude very much unless prompted – and, in my opinion, you shouldn’t do something in order to get thanks… She was happy and that’s all that matters…

Not sure why I’m writing this. I think I’m kind of proud of myself, kind of sad that I now won’t be able to get a free latte the next time I really feel in need (until after payday anyway).
